John the Revelator saw the Immutability of the Holy Scriptures

By Joseph Chambers

IF THE PRESENT CHURCH WORLD WOULD TAKE THE BOOK OF REVELATION AS THE PERFECT WORD OF GOD, EVERY FOUL DOCTRINE TROUBLING THE CHURCH WOULD VANISH. This book was written to the body of Christ and its truths are immutable, and so are all the other books of the Holy Scripture. That is not my word; that is God's Word. The great Apostle Paul wrote by the Holy Ghost that it was impossible for God to lie.

Let's read the exceptional wording where we are promised that all the counsel or words of God are immutable. "For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us." (Hebrews 6: 13-18) The Apostle then states that God's immutable counsel is "the anchor of the soul" (Hebrews 6: 19b).

What did (John) the Revelator learn about the visions and prophesies that God had given him by the incredible angels and other witnesses? These visions were spectacular. The scenes covered every great truth of the 65 books of the Bible. From the beginning to the new Heaven and earth, it was all in these breathtaking visions. It was the Spirit that stated, "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1), and Jesus was called "the beginning and the end". John knew the great doctrines of the Old Testament and Christ and saw the book of Revelation as a perfect rendering of all truth.

The Bible is totally immutable. You will be judged by every word or counsel from God. "The Word is forever stilled in Heaven" (Psalms 119:89). Here are the words of this Godly saint that had just finished walking the "milky white way of Heaven's revelations". He said, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book" (Revelation 22:18-19). John was careful to tell us the source of these closing words. "He which testifieth these things saith, surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus" (Rev. 22:20).

This plain declaration of the words of God and their absolute perfection must stand if anyone is to appear un-condemned before God. There is only one standard or criteria by which the world and every soul will be judged. Grace will not cover sin in that awesome day. God's grace cleanses sin, it covers over nothing. The Blood of Jesus does not white-wash, but it washes white.

The translator, Bible teacher, or theological scholar who tampers with the Bible is in for a great surprise. The book of Revelation text certainly applies to the entire Bible, but let's concern ourselves with Revelation itself for this article. The Father's purpose in this book was to take every great truth of future prophesies and give them a chronological order. No previous writer had proposed a systematic picture of the End Times and the judgment of the world. This book is just that and we are forbidden to add our own imaginations.

The mid-wrath Rapture doctrine is a case in point. Nothing is said about a rapture right before the wrath of the last seven vials, but proponents have imposed it anyway. It is exactly what the Spirit had forbidden. The same is true of the Preterist, Post-Millennialist, and A-Millennialist teachings. Men are just not satisfied to take Scripture literally. People that call themselves scholars will impose their opinions, every time; but God has forbidden such activity.

To take away one great truth of Holy Scripture is to lose your place in the "Book of Life". To tamper with the Bible is no different than tampering with the Sovereignty of God, the Divinity of Jesus Christ, or the omnipresence of the Holy Ghost. The Bible is divine truth. It is alive with the fire of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is a book that bleeds with Christ's divine sacrifice. To take out words or deny certain truths is like trampling on the blood as it fell to the ground.

Nothing that John stated in this masterpiece is more powerful than these closing words. When you look at the emerging church, you can easily see the skeleton of a church where the flesh has been ripped from the bones. The Laodicean church is a graveyard inside ornate buildings, where death is the master. John saw the immutability of the Holy Scripture and warned of unclean hands handling the Word of God. When the blind lead the blind, deception rules the day. Only in the infallible Book do we find truth, peace, and safety.
