Characteristics of the Self Life: Measure Yourself.

The following are some of the features and manifestations of the self-life. The Holy Spirit alone can interpret and apply this to your individual case. As you read, examine yourself in the very presence of God. ARE YOU EVER CONSCIOUS OF: A secret spirit of pride or an exalted feeling in view of your success or position — because of your good training or appearance; because of your natural gifts and abilities — an important, independent spirit?  -Proverbs 6:18, 20:6, 25:14; -Romans 12:3; -James 4:6. Love of human praise; a secret fondness to be noticed; love of supremacy; drawing attention to (one) self in conversation; a swelling out of self when (ever) you have had a special open door in speaking or praying?  -John 5:44, 12:42,43; -1 Corinthians 13:4-7. How Readest Thou! (Poem)

It is one thing to read the Bible through, It’s another thing to read to learn and do. Some read it as their duty once a week, But no instructions from the Bible (do they) seek. Some read to bring themselves into repute By showing others how often they can dispute. While others read because their neighbors do To see how long ’twill take to read it through. And some there are who read it out of spite, I fear there are but few who read it right. So...

Sincere But Mistaken

Constructing a proper and reliable building is possible using a tool called a plumb-line . Without such a tool, the builder -- however well-meaning and sincere -- is likely to make serious errors. Likewise, our lives and beliefs need to be guided by the plumb-line of God's Word. (Read Psalms 119:105, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, Amos 7:8) . A popular/common concept is, "It doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you are sincere." However, one must be sincere in believing the right thing . We have great respect for a man who is so earnestly sincere in his convictions that he is willing to die for them. But sincerity is not sufficient. There was an incident that took place many years ago in the Borough of Manhattan, New York, wherein a prescription called for a quantity of Barium Sulfate , but the druggist (pharmacist) used Barium Sulfite instead. There was only the difference of one letter between the names of the two drugs; one of them is used for curative purposes,...
