Just A Little Drink: Why Not?

So drinking is your own business? Indeed it is! At least up to a point. You're right, man has used alcohol for thousands of years to brace up the faint, to cheer up festivities, to drown out his problems, etc. So you say that moderate drinking is all right. Moderate drinking? When does moderate drinking develop into intemperance? You can go to any rescue mission and hear the same story over and over. The person had money, prestige, a good job, a fine family, but then all at once, or so it seemed, he was on the skids. It all started out with a little drink that "won't/wouldn't hurt." The very thing that had made him friends had turned on him and had caused his ruination. The biblical warning, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1) , has/had now been proven in his very own life. And the drink demon had not been satisfied until the victim hit rock bottom. Many traffic accidents are ...

Characteristics of the Self Life: Measure Yourself.

The following are some of the features and manifestations of the self-life. The Holy Spirit alone can interpret and apply this to your individual case. As you read, examine yourself in the very presence of God. ARE YOU EVER CONSCIOUS OF: A secret spirit of pride or an exalted feeling in view of your success or position — because of your good training or appearance; because of your natural gifts and abilities — an important, independent spirit?  -Proverbs 6:18, 20:6, 25:14; -Romans 12:3; -James 4:6. Love of human praise; a secret fondness to be noticed; love of supremacy; drawing attention to (one) self in conversation; a swelling out of self when (ever) you have had a special open door in speaking or praying?  -John 5:44, 12:42,43; -1 Corinthians 13:4-7. The stirrings of anger or impatience which, worst of all, you call nervousness or holy indignation; a touchy, testy, sensitive spirit; a disposition to resent and retaliate when disapproved of or contradicted; a desi...

Sincere But Mistaken

Constructing a proper and reliable building is possible using a tool called a plumb-line . Without such a tool, the builder -- however well-meaning and sincere -- is likely to make serious errors. Likewise, our lives and beliefs need to be guided by the plumb-line of God's Word. (Read Psalms 119:105, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, Amos 7:8) . A popular/common concept is, "It doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you are sincere." However, one must be sincere in believing the right thing . We have great respect for a man who is so earnestly sincere in his convictions that he is willing to die for them. But sincerity is not sufficient. There was an incident that took place many years ago in the Borough of Manhattan, New York, wherein a prescription called for a quantity of Barium Sulfate , but the druggist (pharmacist) used Barium Sulfite instead. There was only the difference of one letter between the names of the two drugs; one of them is used for curative purposes,...

Jesus Christ Is Coming Again

The Lord Jesus came to earth to save man from his sins. He came in humility, in the likeness of man, and took upon him the form of a servant [Philippians 2:7] . He died for the sins of many, was buried, then rose again [1 Corinthians 15:4] , and ascended into heaven [Acts 1:9] . He was seen by the apostles and more than five hundred believers after the resurrection. After He ascended to heaven, two angels said to the disciples that His return would be like His ascension. Only God knows when the Lord will return. It may be in the evening, or at midnight, or in the morning, and at noon [Mark 13:35] . "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh" [Matthew 24:44] . Some have predicted the time of His return, even to the day and hour. "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only" [Matthew 24:36] . He will come unexpectedly as a thief in the night [2 Peter 3:10] . "For as a sn...
