The Television Set: The World in Your Home
NOTE: Here (below) is a tract from the Gospel Tract and Bible Society [in Mountridge, Kansas] that I found in a motel lobby [now demolished] back in 1/03 when I was walking with my sister on a mostly cloudy day [job hunting] and was suffering from a kidney infection. The first (half) scripture is from the tract itself, but the rest I added in for good measure b/c I felt they were equally relevant. Without further ado, eat your heart out.

Psalm 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

Among the world's amusements, television is one of the greatest villians on the highway of time. It is rocking people to sleep morally and spiritually. Its sinister force of evil has crept into the living rooms of countless homes. Revolting scenes of lust and crime have gained foothold in the sanctity of the home. This danger far outweighs even the more obvious (apparent) evils because it is right in the home and (even) has parental approval.
Most parents have never though of taking their children to nightclubs, theaters, and other places of filthy & questionable amusement, yet these same entertainments are paraded in front of both the young and old and are brought right in to the home. Alas, Satan has scored a tremendous victory! Has anything ever equaled it for destorying the youth of many countries and is doing it so thoroughly? It is an established, known fact that what goes through the eye gate [boob tube, idiot box, 'electronic' baby-sitter, receiver, small screen, etc.] truly makes a vivid impression. Regular TV fare includes bloody scenes of holdups, fights, murder, drinking, smoking, drugs, dancing, feminism, sexual activity, and scantily-clad women AND men. Indeed the moral and spiritual lives of many are at stake. A steady diet of brutal crime and violence -- sponsored by ungodly men -- is fed to millions not having the moral will to resist. Many TV viewers concede that there is much wrong with television, but seek to justify it by the good that is presented, such as news events, weather, educational programs and markets [MY OWN NOTE: to be honest, even THESE programs have their downsides, b/c remember... MOST of the media is controlled by the Invisible Government Elite, who will slant, bend & bias it as much as they like to influence much of the population's opinions, values and belief system(s) of things, and most of the time it's for the WORST (and in favour of their evil, sick, twisted agenda{s}), which is part of the point of this (particular) blog]. But when a bad program comes on they really do intend to turn it off, but often the effort is not made. Much valuable time is wasted (squandered) in front of the TV. The Bible warns against such waste when it says:
-Ephesians 5:15-16 (15)See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, (16)Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
-Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
-Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
-Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
-Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Innocent children are following the example set by parents. With very little thought of the consequences, parents allow the television set -- with it powerful influence -- a prominent place in (the sanctity of the) home. It becomes a baby-sitting service to free parents up to persue some other (selfish) interest(s) of the moment. The kind of fear and horror portrayed on television is not needed in any home; but rather a godly fear and respect should be taught.
Many of our judges, magistrates, educators, preachers [and other authority figures] are alarmed at the damage television programs are doing. Children have become so absorbed in the fantasy world of television that some schools have initiated special programs for children to teach them to relate to the real world.
Television programs are becoming more degenerated. Family life is being degraded. Scenes involving feminism, divorce, adultery, homosexuality, promiscuity, single-parent homes -- which mostly/mainly include only the mother rearing the child or children -- and abortion are depicted as being normal. Satalite receivers also bring in the smut and pornography of other lands as well. Video cassette recorders (VCRs) -- or as of today digital video recorders (DVRs) -- enable one to record these scenes of shame which were broadcast while one was away only to replay them at a more convenient time, or to play some rented X-rated movie. 24-hour sports programs are offered, which keep the mind off the realities, cares & worries of life.
All God-fearing parents should help sound the alarm! Satan has moved into the home in the guise (form) of television. What(ever) happened to the peaceful and intimate conversations that were so essential to family unity & welfare (well-being)? Where are the prayerful and soul-inspiring times of singing that the father, mother, son & daughter once enjoyed? But (unfortunately) many are robbed of the finer and nobler blessings of life by feeding on the (empty, shallow, artificial/superficial, meaningless, insipid) husks this cold world offers instead. The sensational, the jazz (nonsense), and junk will never truly satisfy and substitute (make up for) what is already lost -- the peaceful & quiet home life wherein God is first and foremost. It would be very difficult for a home having television to maintain an environment that makes for clean and virtuous living Christian living -- the things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, etc. (see Philippians 4:8).
We are in the last days. The judgment(s) of God will soon fall upon a pleasure-seeking (human) race. Because sin & iniquity abound, the love of many is waxing cold [see Matthew 24:12]. When the day of grace is past (or gone forever) there will be no cure, no amending of ways; in other words it will be too late to repent and no hope thereof to get right with God Almighty. Better to be without a television set than to speed God's wrath and give account for failing to teach our children the way they should go.
-Matthew 6:24 & Luke 16:13 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
-Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
As we read of such disturbing and frightening facts, does there not come to our hearts an invitation to (have) better things and greater happiness?
-2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing...
God's plan for our enjoyment is one that takes us away from the corruption so prevelant in the world and draws us close to His side where we will find inner contentment & satisfaction. True joy is not found in excitement and momentary gratification but rather in the lasting treasure of peace of mind and heart. Dear reader, let us respond to God's invitation by loosing ourselves from all that destorys and corrupts. Let us hold to that which brings true values, love, and happiness into our hearts and homes.

I am glad you posted this track. I am so sick of how people sit in front of a t.v. and take everything it says as the gospel truth but question the Bible. People I quick to believe something because it is on t.v. Countless acts of violence, sexual immorality, and other vile actions take place on t.v. and people dismiss it as just acting. Moreover, people let their kids watch everything and even have them emulate it. Disgusting. This might be a little off topic but just in case you haven't seen it watch how people are basically having their kids worship a false god on this vid. Thanks for blogging!

ReplyDeleteI have a friend [of a little more than 5.5 years, who's 1 year, 10 months & 3 weeks older than me] who's guilty of this, unfortunately. I won't force anything on her [what good would THAT do?], but the only thing I can do at this point is continue to pray for not just her salvation, but for the Lord to open her eyes to the truth. Although we don't see eye-to-eye on a lot of things I still love her.
I've read a number of articles, according to them SEEING is DOING. You ARE what you EAT, in other words. What you see, hear, feel, read, think & do has an effect on a person's brain function, and (in addition) Satan knows that he can use these channels/means to put the wrong kind(s) of thoughts into people's minds [everything that has EVER been done throughout human history started with ONE. SINGLE. SIMPLE. THOUGHT.] How can people -- of course I'm referring to the pea-brained, small-minded simpletons -- say that what they see and (think thoughts about) don't really matter when Jesus Hisself said that these -- as small & insignificant as they SEEM -- are the VERY hooks that can drag people's (entire) lives down in destruction?!
Of course when people watch television -- especially cable television, which is controlled by the Elite/Invisible Government -- they're not doing anything except absorbing waves... the ones which put them in some sort of complacent trance, of course. [This goes back to what I said earlier in this comment about thoughts and stuff.] Satan knows just how to (slowly but surely) lead people into sin, and I must say he's pretty good at his job & M.O. (modus operandi). He's been an awfully busy boy lately -- and so have his subordinates -- b/c they know their time is short. That's why people need to feed/take in the RIGHT things, or else whatever seeds you sow, that's what (fruits, crops or whatever) will come forth later on, no matter how long it takes. And for folks to think that God's Seed Principle Law He spelled out (plainly) in His Word is somehow not gonna come to be are fooling NO ONE but themselves.

I don't agree w/ everything up there [beside the point], but I agree w/ most of it, and I've been quite blessed thru it. I'll be forever thankful/grateful to the Lord for my late pastor -- who had a prophetic ministry -- Jim Loundermilk, who passed away about 12 years ago @ the age of 58 from cancer; he'll be sorely missed, b/c had God NOT sent him I would NOT have had enough sense to recognise/recognize the truth.
